I want to learn to speak Spanish, have tried the usual CD and book thingies but generally don't get on with them, so the thinking is now to either go to night school or have a go with the Rosetta Stone stuff.
Question is has anyone here used it?
    Is it any good?
    Is it worth the dosh?

    Gracias

Sorry cant help you with Rosetta the price always puts me off.

I would suggest getting a spanish speaking mistress, this may improve your oral skills far more quickly than any other kind of course.

Ps have you tried http://www.busuu.com/ though i think it is very similar to the cd based courses but the basics are free.

If you have the time why not enrol on a 1 day a week evening college course? they're fairly cheap and a good way to learn, you will be given homework to do as well. I think the level 1 is about £130 for 10 weeks.

I'm doing the Rosetta Stone French course, yes it seems a lot of money, £450 for all the modules but if you don't like it return it for a refund.

I think the course is good and worth the money.

I had enough of trying to learn French at school.

I'll be interested to hear what you tink about this as I've been thinking of taking up Spanish.

The RS course is 'total immersion' style, no translations and lots of interaction. So there is verbal, written (typed on the keyboard), lots of pictures and backup CDs to play in the car. In total there are 6 CD ROMs and 20 CDs.

RS has a technical helpline (0800 number) and seem very helpful. Their e-mail helpline answered my 3 queries within 12 hours of asking each time.

Bones is French and she says my pronunciation and grammar has improved dramatically since starting the course.

The hard part with any self-learn course is motivation, dedicating time and effort is paramount, unless you sit in front of the computer you cannot learn.
