For personal reasons, I will soon be retiring from running UKDivers, probably by the first week in March.

Suggestions as to how to proceed would be welcome by private message or this forum.

Well a forum is made up of its members, and this one was beginning to get back the old spirit of UKD, so I guess the question is how do the members want to take it forward.

That's a shame, UKD is a great forum.
I barely know one end of a computer from the other so can't offer help but happy to support a new owner. (Not those Canadian lot though)

I assume there is a basic running cost. If (by pm if nescecary) we can know what it is we may be able to come up with it collectively. Even if only in the short term.

I don't want to loose UKD again.

I'd be willing to support the forum going forward, either financially or in an administrative role. I certainly have the time...

I'm new to this forum but it seems a lot friendlier than some of the others :) hope it can carry on running.

I'd like to help in any way that doesn't involve time or money... I seem to be a bit thin on both lol
I would hate to see ukd vanish again though

So Peter, key question is do you want to hand over the forum to the members (who it seems are happy and collectively capable to run it) or do you wish to sell it for money/profit. I appreciated you have spent a lot of time and money keeping it going.

If you would like to PM myself and/or Doomanic, or one of the Mods with some financial details of the operating costs we will see if we can keep this fantastic community going with the good spirit in which it was created.

And my I say no behalf of the others? Never for a profit.

    Thanks

    Calum

Happy to help. Out of interest, other than donations how is this funded? Would members be keen to see paid advert banners like other forums or keep as is?

I'm always interested when people say this seems a nicer forum than others, when most of the members are on both/all of them :)

I'm on "both" the ones i assume you're referring to.... this feels more friendly, less "hardcore" more fun and relaxed place to be. The other place also has it's merits, they are just different to the merits of this site... hence a member and active user of both....

can't, however, speak for others..... :)

I'd say smaller and friendlier is my best description. More if an internet based diving club. The 'other' forum is just bigger and you get everything that goes with that.
