Well, after several months of waiting to de-strokie myself and become certified on the Megalodon CCR, the deed has finally occured. After having done all my training during UK Winters I decided it was a time for a change and headed off to Gran Canaria to train under Richie Stevenson, recognized as one of the best instructors in his field, with us based at the excellent Dive Academy in the South of Gran Canaria.

The weather was great, viz was brilliant and we had an unhurried 6 days, with run times up to 110 minutes, in which to get through the syllabus to the required standard and time to spare for some recreational diving on the units. There were four of us on the course, two on JJ's, one on a Sentinel and myself on the Meg. This gave me a chance to see the other breathers in action and compare to my own. Diving included shore dives off the rocks in the Marine reserve and some RHIB diving on wrecks.

Whilst getting to grips with the units was challenging at times, the conditions went a long way to ensuring the course was conducted in comfortable surroundings and able to focus on skills. My conclusion about the Meg is that it is a flexible, simple and straight forward modular unit, with the versatility to upgrade easily. Work of breath is good, flood recovery and diluent flushes easy enough and it's not overburdened with monitored data and electronic, the interpretation of which is good easily task overload someone.

All in all, was very happy with the location, instruction, unit, the guys and facilities at Dive Academy and the environment we operated in.

Nice one Clanger. You'll have to give Keeny a shout to compare notes.

Well Done, Major Clanger! So, I've heard of Sentinel and MEG, but tell me one thing... what's a 'JJ'?

No, I don't think I've had that pleasure.

Anyway I suspect any diving I'd be happy with would be far too tame for our resident dive gods
