    Diving a rebreather without the correct knowledge is dangerous, there are lots of ways a rebreather can kill you without warning, if you either mis read the info you are given or don't pay attention.
    IMHO a formal training course is not the only way, but you do need to aquire the knowledge somehow.

    I dive a rebreather, on trimix, with a home made sorb cartridge and I have had no training on it.
    But it's OK, I've not had it deeper than 58m :) .

    When you look at most RB divers they have paid someone who says they are an instructor but have they recieved training. Well, if they have its pretty poor. Then theres always the excuse that they were a shit diver before going on a unit.
