    Anyone on here done it?

A friend has just bought a metal detector & I've offered to give him a hand with it.

Yes, I have. I found mooring buoy chains, although not the one we were seeking. The process sounds easy on the surface. Unless you have a good reason for doing I'd suggest you don't bother.

Just something a little different that I’d never even contemplated until it was suggested a couple of weeks ago.

He’s already gone and bought himself a metal detector.

Chances of finding anything to make it all worthwhile are probably somewhere between non-existent and zero, but I’m sure we’ll have a bit of fun trying.

I saw a guy trying one out in Leybourne lakes the other day. Didn't even find a shopping trolly. (It must be broken).

Spent last weekend on a survey where we used underwater metal detectors.

The process of using them was pretty simple, although the one i used had pretty limited options for tuning, it basically worked or didn't. Another had a few knobs to tweak, which I assume adjusted sensitivity.

What's the output - audible (beeping) or visual (lights)

A beep - You can see a coiled cable coming off the detector, that has a small speaker in that tucks inside your hood and beeps slowly until you detect something and then goes faster depending on the strength of the find.

There are lights on the top of the unit, where there's also a switch, but I never noticed if they flashed when something was detected.
