So Mrs P and I have booked to go on emperor Leo in November, followed by 4 nights on Kurumba. We have never been before. Most of our non UK diving has been in the Red Sea.

We have a great Red Sea fish book that we love to use after a dive to identify all the sighting.
Can anyone recommends good fish identification book for the Maldives?

I'm jealous - we did a cruise of the North atoll some years ago before I started diving. Snorkelling was wonderful but involved wading to the edge of each island's reef up to 100 yards.

    Captain,

I'll let you know mid April as I'm off there for 10 days starting on the 4th (yes, I'm bragging, but I'm excited, so forgive me! :D)

I'll see what books they're using on board.

I've got a Collins Pocket Guide of Coral Reef Fishes, though, that worked well in the Red Sea and Indonesia - I suspect it'll cover most fish in the Indian Ocean too (especially as I bought it after the dive centre in Mauritius used it and it impressed me there).

I’ve been to Kuradu three times, there is a bigger verity of fish but the coral is not as good as the Red Sea. Not many wrecks, but if you do the shipyard you will enjoy it.

10 days? Is that all liveaboard?
Thank you! I would really appreciate it if you could give me that feedback after your trip!
If you don't mind I will have other questions too!

Yes, I have a copy. It only has the fish that you'll see in the Maldives so it's perfect for there as there's no confusion over what you've actually seen. I've also got the Collins book and the same cannot be said for the drawings in there.

I have been to the Maldives rather a lot: http://www.scuba-addict.co.uk/maldives

    Yes all liveaboard.

Sure I'll be happy to talk about it for years to come :)

    Thanks a lot!
I'll read your blog and come back to you?

I never saw any liveaboards for 10 days.

I'm going with Aggressor and they do a few 10 day trips (most are just 7).

Been back about a month now, where does the time go.

    In summary, it was great.

Mantas, White Tips, Black Tips, Nurse Sharks, Grey Reef Sharks, Whale Sharks, even a Zebra Shark. Some even saw a Guitar Shark.

    Turtles, Stingrays, Trevallys, Morays galore!

Stonefish, Scorpion fish, plenty of other interesting stuff.

Huge numbers of reef fish, a few truly memorable dives and plenty of very good ones.

Lovely conditions for the first 7 days, a bit of rain on the last 3, but the sea remained pretty calm.

My first experience of liveaboard diving, but an excellent one.

10 days didn't seem too much either!

If you have any specific questions, ask away!
