Andark, that well known purveyor of all things diving...

And in the same vein of alternative truths - it'll be great.

    Sad to see it die.

Nothing alternative about it, you said there were no shops when Andark who have always had
one of the biggest shop stands at dive shows are there, so your post was factually inaccurate.

It won't die though as there is a need at this time of year and catchment area.
I can see a new show along the lines of the Northern effort, but maybe more central on the M4
corridor away from the expense of London.

was going to go, but only a few stands there, £20 parking, £16 to get in.
4 tickets for one price 3 other shows to see, like i want to see pushbikes , outdoor walking activities
and some other rubbish, notice that the motorbike show wasnt included, or would have gone.

Andark take a stand at the boat show too.

Sorry @Tel, but calling 11 stands with one (poorly stocked) shop a "dive show" is pushing semantics a tad far. I notice that even BSAC aren't listed.

Three years ago there were >50 stands(?) including most of the big names - I remember Northern Diver had a full size stand (i.e. four sides) and probably a dozen Suunto dealers, specialist underwater camera dealers, holidays, Apeks, loads of stands flogging yellow flubber... it was a proper show.

This runt of a dive show - renamed Ocean 2017, not even got the word 'dive' in the title - is pointless. You would see more dive kit by browsing Ocean Leisure in Charing Cross and save the entry fee.

I've the same ire for the useless London Boat Show which is also a shadow of its former self. Full of jellymould plastic mass market marina fodder, and nothing of interest. Southampton in September is the only show.

I wonder if the owners of ExCell are screwing the store holders with outrageous fees. But even if it were free, ExCell is a horrid location.

Er I didnt call it a dive show, the organisers did and whether it has 50 or 11 stands it's still a dive show
and Andark are still there, so not sure what point you are trying to make.

Might not be the same as shows of old but as to sustainabilty and going in with other sports, well that
writing was on the wall years ago unless new blood comes in. It's short-sighted by many in the profession
to ignore that the sport desperatly needs access to the demographic that is already into other adventure
    sports.

Sport Diver Magazine, Divewise want to carry on the list? Well these are Ex-exhibitors and who in this
climate do you think is going to fill this void unless it's from an entirely new source?

Further to the earlier points made regarding lack of shops/exhibitors. Does any think that this ay be a sign of Diving becoming less popular or there other reasons.

With regard to the London Boat Show, I can remember going to that a few years ago when it was held at Earls Court, in those days it was a great day out if you had an interest in boats. I was actually given an Exhibitors pass so had access to a lot more than the average visitor so saw more. The Southampton Show is now the place to visit and it's a better location.

Trouble is I'm interested in diving, not the plankton-loving eco-tosh. I want to go to see different types of dive kit including the exotic fringes - rebreathers, scooters, photography kit. I'd like a bargain and a bag to carry it home in. I'd also like to hear stories of daring-do, wrecks, deep diving, cave diving, skills development....

    That's what I call a dive show.

And as you say, Oceans2017 isn't any of that. It isn't a dive show.

Of course if I had the same interest in bicycles, no problems as there's a proper show for that. Same as motorcycling as there's a show for that too.

I really hope Andark do well being the only kit supplier. However, they'll be bringing but a fraction of their large shop's stock. It'll be far more cost effective to spend a day at Andark's shop on the Hamble and even a dive in their lake, than to go to London.

    LIDS RIP
