I had a good kit fiddle today. My 4tec (edit, its the old one with NiMH battery and rotary switch) has been idle for some time. Tried to turn it on but nothing, so I went to charge it. Hooked it up then turned on the charger as is the advised order. The indicator light on the charger did it’s red/green thing then just went out. It now seems completely lifeless, I tried different sockets etc
Do you think the charger has just died? It didn’t go pop or anything just went dead.

    thanks.

Batteries more likely to be dead rather than charger. Charger seems to be doing the right things. Can you measure the voltage your battery is showing.

The charger will not repeat the indicator light thing, it’s now dead, not even a flicker.

If a cell has gone down in the battery, it’s the same as not having the charger plugged in. It is not making contact

Assume the cable's the standard LfM RCA connector on your battery. If so give it a good clean and make sure the connector's properly seated. Might need a little rub with a screwdriver to get the detritus cleaned from the battery connector's surface.

I've had to squeeze the skirts of the RCA plug to make a better contact.

Might need to borrow a charger to prove it's OK. And/or battery.

Well Strikalite think it will cost £88 to make a new batt pack for the torch. Cheaper than a new one!

Is that a NiMh or LiPo pack?

    You offering?
Whilst I have many tools and am in negotiations for a large bandsaw I don’t own a soldering iron.

    will have a look.

I can do it if you want. Logistics will be a PITA though. Can you unscrew the canister and send me some pics of the batteries (there should be two) and the connectors?

I have the thing apart already, can send you pics and or the whole cell unit. Happy to pay you 80-100 to sort.

Can’t send pics here. Will get a text sorted.
