Having a play with my stage reg, removed the button gauge and put an spg on a 6" hose. The hose was brand new, given to me by Stu. Onpened valve slowly and heard a hissing, closed valve and checked din wheel and put a bit of spit on soem of the bits I had changed- nothing..
Opened valve again and heard hissing again, then noticed this!

Going to need a news hose. Scary thing was I had my face right next to it trying to find out where the leak was.

Yeah.... it was all part of the master plan.... :nailbiting::devil:

Bloody thing was practically new too.... think it'd only been wet about 4 times! It was a Beaver HP hose if i remember correctly!

Reduce the number of backmounters so you become the norm?

Well if it had been a Miflex you would not have had that warning.

Was in Stoney's shop a few weeks back. They only do Myfloat hoses now and claim they're just the same. Errm, no they're not!

I know its not Friday... but what is the problem with Miflex hoses?
Mine are Apeks... but a few of the guys I dive with have those braided hoses.

The Miflex HP hoses have a habit of bursting. The LP hoses are probably ok (If you like a floppy, slippy, floaty hose) but i've heard very very bad things about the HP hoses.

As JB says.... it's not all Miflex hoses, just the HP hoses for your SPG.... they have a history of bursting without warning.... Miflex say they've fixed this problem now, but they were such a disaster, don't think anybody trusts them now......

The LP hoses for regs and LPI etc are fine, no problems with them at all.

    Gotcha.
What a shame.. because they do look quite nice. I'm happy with my Apeks ones... and still have the hose covers on them...
    Must think about removing those!

Why? Reason they are there is the same as the Myflex HP blocks, to stop the strain
where the metal crimp meets the hose. This is a known failure point and it's better to have
them on than not - however :)

Every now and again pull them back and check the condition of the hose, if it looks like its
bulging even slightly then it's worth changing. Apeks LP hoses tend to completly burst
as if it's cut, can even have 2nd stages blown off :) HP on the other hand tend to split
internally which sees a line of bubbles in the sleeve or spliit in one spot.

John Kendall was saying whilst he used to have no issues with people using miflex hoses if they wanted to, subsequently hes had on two seperate occasions during teaching cave courses the long hose kink after donation resulting in the OOG diver unable breathe off the donated hose. Whether there was a particular problem with a batch of hoses or whatever..... he says its not worth the risk and now won't let students use them on his courses. x

I gave mine away to AndyStev. Not sure if he is still using it. I also hated the noise it made over my shoulders when I moved my head.

Andy Ashs first foray into the long hose was with a miflex, we ran through a few s-drills and he complained about the noise, it was irritating to me too being close to him I could hear it . He struggled that the hose seemed to have a life of its own at times....he was happy to accept a gift of a rubber hose after that lolz x

They seem to be a solution to a problem that doesn't exist, but worryingly seem to becoming more widespread. By that I also mean other manufacturers offering braided hoses.
