Meeting new buddies is part of what makes diving special and here on UKD we like to actively encourage members to meet up and dive with each other.

Here are a few guidelines to help keep you safe when diving for the first time with a new buddy found over the internet:-

    1) Never dive with an unsafe diver...

Remember you have the right to call a dive at any point. Don't get pushed into diving beyond your own comfort and ability level.

Before diving with a member of UKD for the first time please take time to check a few of the following, just because they are an internet forum member with 1000's of posts does not mean they are a competent diver.

    Check :-

Qualifications.... physically look at a cert card. Are they qualified to do the diving they and you want to do?

Recent diving experience Are you both up to the dive?

Plan the dive together If you are unsure ask!

Insist on carrying out buddy checks Even if they try to brush it off... it could save your or their life!

Ask questions. Take your time and don't be rushed.

Don't ever be embarressed to end a dive if you are not happy.

If they are a good buddy they will respect your wishes and you'll buddy up again.

    Stay safe and happy diving
