Just wondering if there would be any interest in "us" doing a trip "abroad" next year...

    Where?

    When?

    What (shore based, liveaboard)?

Type (recreational, technical, deep, easy, combination)

    Any other ideas?

So, thoughts about maybe a trip to Malta. Could be out of season as it gets proper hot there. There's loads of different diving available and plenty of places which will rent out the heavy kit - twinsets, singles, etc. Also off-season means it'll be cheaper.

It also means we could do all sorts of diving from easy shallow stuff through to some of the better-known wrecks which require twinsets/rebreathers. Malta's pretty family-friendly too.

Blue, warm water. What's not to like?

Still, at least in Malta, there's loads else to do.

Or better yet you could do your Mod 1 while you are out there and then we would hardly see you at all :)

BTW I am up for this

Although going to the Red Sea would be nice, the hassle of getting there has never appealed.

Maybe the Spanish islands could be possible as an alternative to Malta.

Personally I'd favour going late Sept, early Oct. Prices would have dropped and the crowds disappeared.

Depends on timing as the "Boss" and I will be in Cyprus during September. Maureen has also mentioned Croatia, as she fancies diving there. Another advantage of October is the water temperature is a just about the warmest of the year, which will suit you southern softy shandy drinkers.

Hassle? What hassle? Direct with Easyjet to Hurghada, then s to one of many liveaboards (eg Tala for scooter and trimix action)

    Mind you, Croatia also appeals!

I'm potentially up for this depending on cost, dates and how much grief I get from the long haired general!

Hmm, Croatia. The diving's good and it's supposed to be a nice place too.

I've a slight issue with liveaboards that are out at sea: lack of comms. Sure, it's a holiday, but I'm often "on call" for work and a week completely out of touch will be difficult. If the worst happened and I needed to do some work, the internet prices would be outrageous from Egypt. Almost free in Europe now -- wait until Brexit when the bloody phone companies shove up prices.

Considering we can't even fill a UK boat these days this is very ambitious...

I already have a pink pass for Easter, just need to decide if it's under the sea or up a mountain.

Where in Croatia would you recommend @Doomanic?

I've only been to Krnicadive, so they are the only place I can comment on. Diving is very good though and Maurizio is a great host.

Isn't that a bit 'advanced' in terms of diving, i.e. GUE frendly but not so much for recreational diving and generally off of hard boats? Or is there a mix of diving available?

    Pretty much.

The best place to go for variety in a small area is Malta where even the shore dives can be wreck dives.

Given the size of the islands it doesn't really matter.

Which do you prefer? Which sites are better in your experience? What about the night/day life? Dive outfits to use? Things to avoid?

I only ask as you've been there diving, I've not.
