Kit Advice for the beginner
More questions from me Smile

I am intending to do alot more U.K diving in the months ahead and once I have the AOW suspect I will be aiming to dive an awful lot more.
So with this in mind, I am starting my research now.

I know these questions probably get asked an awful lot so I really appreciate anyone that takes the time to post up their thoughts.
I also appreciate if you can be precise with the information you give as I may have no idea what you are talking about if you put a part number up etc Smile

Anyway,

I have mask, snorkle, boots, fins

First purchase will be a dive computer and I have seen loads of posts on a few models which I think will do fine. I am happy with this.

I am aware that I would need items to be serviced etc so would need to dive a fair bit to get the value from them. I will consider this before getting all the bits.

Next quesion is:

What should I get next?
I was thinking Dry Suit and suitable undersuit.
Followed by Regs and BCD

If you agree with the above, are the basic packages that you see on Simplyscuba etc OK? They say they are great intro packages but I would really like to go on other divers advice.

Budget wise, i dont want to spend MEGA money where its not necessary but it needs to be safe and see me through a good few years diving in the U.K.

comments always welcome guys SmileHuh

Hi wedmonds (again... Big Grin )

The basic pacakages are a good place to start if they meet your budget and expectations / constraints. In this instance, before jumping in on-line with the Internet retailers, I would recommend that you went along to your LDS (Local Dive Store/Shop) to have a "real" look at what they have, try some stuff on and get (hopefully not biased) staff opinions. Also, compare on-line costs to the LDS and haggle... Then, if you have time, go to another LDS that carries different gear to "play" there.

Anyway, you havent said in your profile where you are (roughly) in the world in order that we can point you in the right direction of good LDSs

Trying on at a Dive shop is the way to go. Uncomfy dive gear will just annoy you and spoil the tranquility of your dive.

One of my favorite places... not for diving though. I'm a fan of bike racing and BH is, in my opinion, one of the most exciting tracks anywere.

Back on topic, I may be a Londoner by birth but dont personally know the area for diving.
