Din or A-clamp
This diving lark is getting confussing!!

I have been told that the DIN connector is now being used more over Europe, but not so much in the States. It seems that the DIN is a better connector, I think. Can air tanks use both systems, I would hate to go for the DIN type and not be able to use my regs while away.

RE: Din or A-clamp
Most valves are known as DIN-Convertible. This means that they are all set up for A-Clamp and then if you want to use DIN you unscrew a central core of the valve. Want to use A-Clamp again? just screw the core back in.

RE: Din or A-clamp
DIN is far better! A lot of cylinders have an MDE valve so that the A-clamp insert can be unscrewed so they they are then suitable for DIN too. When I dived in Egypt I was worried their cylinders might be A-clamp so checked first, and they were convertable. When we got there, I was surprised at how many people were using DIN. In any event, you can buy a DIN to A-clamp converter for about £10 - 15 and in the event of cylinders being only A-clamp you can still use your lovely DIN regs. I have one of these, but so far its just gathered salt in the bottom of my dive bag.

RE: Din or A-clamp
So as long as it is an MDE valve then it should be fine? So the centre bit comes all the way out? Best not to lose it then! I must admit they look at bit better, if that makes any difference! Are the DIN regs anymore expensive?

RE: Din or A-clamp
MDE is just a manufacturer. DIN-Convertible is what to ask for. DIN should be the same price as A-Clamp

RE: Din or A-clamp
DIN should be the same price, except if you buy Mares regs, then they are more expensive.
