Nervous newbie
Hi everyone.
Just thought i'd say hi as i'm a newbie. Well kind of, i'm very much a newbie to diving but have been on here a few years ago when I was thinking of doing my OW. I remember O2 Steve had great advice back then!
This time I am back and HAVE to do my OW by December as were going to somewhere very beautiful and I refuse to waste my time in a class doing my OW then.
My husband has his Advanced OW and Nitrox and for him its the easiest thing ever. I do not even swim under water so I am quite nervous to say the least.
I have done 2 try dives about 7 years ago on hols and loved it.
Its just reg recovery and mask clearing which make me a bit anxious. Scared

I have a try dive with local dive school a week on Sunday then i'm booking my PADI OW.

Thought coming back here would help me with things.

Hello to all the newbies and older and wiser ones too.
I'm sure i'll be on here alot

RE: Nervous newbie
hi there and welcome to the forum.

bit of advice......get your brain into the 'i can' mode and then you will find that YOU control the nerves not vice versa.

The best bit of advice i ever had is STOP, BREATHE, THINK the ACT!! Trust me, it works!
You are the MASTER

Tis better to keep quiet and appear to be an idiot than to open your mouth and prove it beyond doubt

RE: Nervous newbie
Hi and welcome

Once you have practised the reg recovery and mask removal, replace and clear a few times you'll be just fine, honestly

As someone said, believe you can but even more, believe it works the way you are taught, cos it does Cool I remember when I did reg retrieval and purge in the pool for the 1st time. Even the instructor could see the surprise on my face that it actually worked LOL

If you are feeling nervous to get stuck in you could try a (n active) BSAC club as they will give you all the time you need and plenty of practise. You will be surrounded by a whole host of club members keen to support you and quite possibly many in the same position

AS O2 Steve has said, ask any questions, however simple they may seem

RE: Nervous newbie
Hello Jo.
I was nervous about mask release as i thought i would suck water up my nose ( i know it sounds stupid ), but, its really quite easy, someone told me that as long as you have air in your tank and a reg in your mouth you will be ok, the rest is phsycological..
