be worth you advertising what boat you are on - so others can stay clear Smile

Only 4.9% of the UK population live in Wales - the rest just wish they did.

It's not you, it's just unlucky for (or possibly careless of) them.

Do you think your new drysuit is cursed? Smile

I was crewing not diving and my new suit was at home in the shed. It is far too beautiful to be jinxed!!

It was someone who was not really ready for type of diving that was planned. He was overweighted, couldn't use an smb and had various other problems. He had the bits of paper and required number of dives, just not prepared. It was interesting talking to 2 instructors from his club on the way home. It did make me think "why did you allow him on the trip?"

Wow - that was a long and good read! I will join the consenus and agree with all the points made! Too often we hear the same old statements "it won't happen to me" and "I've been diving for soooo many years I dont need to train"...

You'll find me in the pool / quarries playing with any new kit and practising "basic" skills all year round; I'm a firm believer in the old military adage "train hard, fight easy" and am making sure I set a good example to the younger divers in the club. It was drummed in to me as a new diver.

On that point, we can all set a good example for newer divers but being seen to practise what we preach - let's be good role models!

A Very good point, I do think its so important to set good examples of safe and correct practice and often this can be doing the right thing, its so easy to skip and cut corners, but one day it will come back and bite you on the bum, just when you are not expecting it, What does it cost to do a quick buddy check, a what if plan, have a dive plan etc, But at the end of the day an O/W diver has only reached the basic standard and the training must continue beyond the O/W course, train, train, and train, I do feel too many O/W divers get there PADI card and think, well thats me, expert !!!! dream on and think again, you never stop learning, and if you do, just give up. This has been a very intresting thread. Good one PV.

The first step in diving is getting wet !!

You are better being at the bottom of a ladder of something you enjoy & like doing than at the top of a ladder that you dont enjoy or dislike.

PATIENCE today will bring HOPE TOMorrow
